What should students know about Sakai?

Students are encouraged to download and review the Sakai Student Quick Start Guide for things such as “Where do I start with Sakai,” “How do I access my courses?” “Sakai new features” and more.

For assisting nursing students’ successful transition from Blackboard to Sakai and getting them familiar with Sakai basics, the School of Nursing’s Center for Informational Technology and Distance has created a video – Sakai for Students (by Carmen Coates, IT Analyst.) Although the video is intended for nursing students, it covers general information regarding Sakai login, My Workspace, course tabs, and more about basic Sakai navigation.

Note

if you are not a nursing student and have Sakai questions, call the OIT help phone # 919-684-2200, NOT the phone # on the last slide of the video.)

Some faculty members have recorded videos of Sakai course site orientation for their own students.  The examples are –

  • The video created by Dr. Jane Blood Siegfried walks students through her course site’s basic features and explains how she presents her weekly content via the Schedule tool. Watch the video:
  • The CIT blog post: Bio102 Students learn with Sakai contains a video created by Prof. Juliet Noor. In the video, she points out the important features for students, and shows how she carefully thought through the student experience for her course.
